A motor-less rowboat is ideal as it permits you to stand up and cast. Row your boat to reach your fishing spot, but keep a trolling motor with you when you intent to move further away into the water. However it is safer to choose boats with high sides if you are thinking of going out into big lakes or wide rivers as they tend to generate big waves.

Remember to choose the right type of footwear if you are going fishing by the side of a lake. If you are not thinking of wading, hip boots can provide the most feasible solution as they can be rolled down. Stream wading can be done using hip boots, though chest and hip waders are conventionally used. These allow better leg mobility as well as let you remain dry without causing trouble at the seams.

Buy them either: Long or Short. When you are fishing from a boat or have to wade through shallow water, a long jacket is necessary. If you are planning to use chest waders, it is recommended you use a short jacket since the bottom of a long jacket would drag in the water. You should select a jacket with generous pockets for carrying lure boxes and other accessories. You need some shade as you stare into the water.

If you are a good angler, you would always carry three stashes of lure and tackle box where the first one is meant for home stockpile, the larger and second one for the boat and third is for the car. With this you are prepared for any eventuality. Buying all fishing supplies in large quantities at the start of the season makes good sense.
